During my time in the DRC, and in my work with child soldiers, one is often challenged with obtaining information on even the most basic statistics due to the lack of systematic collection of such data. In terms of girl soldiers, this data is even less available. However, qualitative processes clearly indicate that girl soldiers exist. Girl soldiers are key to the maintenance of armed groups in the DRC and in addition there is stigma attached to girls who are associated with armed groups. So, the dilemma is how does one effectively obtain such research information and data?
